what are the items that are in trend right now for this fall season? fall and winter collections are by far the most versatile of what fashion designers put out each year. fabrics are rich in texture yet made lighter for those mild fall days, can often be worn all year round and layered for cold-to-the-bone days. and since colours are typically neutral, they are so easy to mix and match. but more importantly, winter is the favourite season that most singaporeans have their chilly vacation in snow-capped mountains and pristine white landscapes.
i'm sure you would not want to walk down the streets dressing so skimpily and what people would described as "fashion disaster". i puts together the coolest edit of travel gear and fashion essentials for that well-deserved trip - items that will not only carry you through this winter but seasons to come.
must-have item #1: Scarf
SCARF– merino wool is soft and will feel great around your neck. many scarves are made with lower grade wools that are rough and don’t feel so nice. if you want to splurge, go for a cashmere scarf instead. you will never want to wear anything else.
TIP: the most important aspect of any scarf is arguably the way you wear it.
• a great look is to wear your scarf in the fashion made famous by Jude Law. make a loop with the middle of the scarf and insert the two ends through the loop. this is achieved most effectively by using a short skinny scarf.
• a classic way of wearing your scarf is to start with the scarf resting on the back of your neck, wrapping either side around your neck and allowing the ends to hang down. this works best with long and thick scarves.
• a really current way of wearing a slim, crinkled cotton or lurex sheer scarf is in the style of a simple tie; loose around the neck, either with the knot at the top of your front or lower down.
must-have item #2: Coats
COAT– the indispensable piece in any winter traveller’s luggage.this season, do away with the long and cumbersome trench and take your flight of fancy in a short, slightly cropped coat or a padded jacket that makes moving around in the cold weather much easier. plus, layering is a cinch with shorter coats, letting your shirt and scarf enhance your look.
TIP: pick a coat that is easily washable or come with a water-resistant finish. remember that snow does turn into water when you come in from the cold and water spots are never anyone’s best look.
bigger guys would do best away from double-breasted coats which can make you look stuffy and bulky. it also adds unwanted volume to your frame.
instead, go for a contemporary pea coat that will streamline your frame and give you the sharp look you’ve always wanted. leaner, slim guys can enhance their silhouette with a belted coat. just be sure not to get one that is not too large or you might risk looking like you’re wearing a tent.
must-have item #3: Shades/ Sunglasses
SUNGLASSES – An essential accessory no matter what the season. Just because summer is over doesn’t mean there won’t be bright days.
must-have item #4: Hand Luggage/ Bags
HAND LUGGAGE – although it's easy to just begin throwing items into your luggage, it is wise to take the time to carefully choose what you would need while you are on that flight before packing. these will go into your good-sized hand luggage that should ideally be both hand-held and shoulder-carried for maximum comfort. not forgetting crafted in durable, hardy material such as calf leather or rip-stop nylon.
must-have item #5: Vest
VEST – cardigans are no longer a trend in this fall season. a clean cut vest is just enough to show off your body line. produced in classic suiting fabrics, it has a modern shape with higher armholes and a lean, fitted body. a great trend for just about anyone or any body.
TIP: if you are worried that vest are too plain for you, you can always decorate it with brooches and badges. you can also have ironed on logos that makes your vest not only looks formal but also transformed it to street wear.
